Ilminster Green Team

Today we went to Ilminster  to watch the Ilminster Green Team perform. We took our seats excitedly, there was a painting of the ocean and a painting of a skate park. I already knew this would be exciting!

I saw a crayfish, 2 crabs and a kina. The crayfish was called Nanny Koura and she was telling a story about how she saved the world from aliens. Firstly, there was a bunch of kids who were littering some rubbish. Next, the aliens came and said that Planet Earth would be a great place to dump all of their rubbish since they had already polluted their own planet. The leader of the aliens was King Moron. The aliens were orange. The kids said "the aliens should reduce reuse and recycle".

After that, Nanny Koura said to stop and the aliens said "we are sorry because they thought Nanny Koura was their leader because she was orange just like the aliens". They packed up their rubbish and left Earth. Next the kids were going to go home but Nanny Koura said they had to pick up their rubbish as well. The kids left as well.

After this performance I felt inspired and thought that I could make more of a conscious effort to reduce, reuse and recycle more. I really enjoyed the show today. I have been to a Green Team performance before but I liked this one the most.

Speechs

Last week we had speeches. I had to do my speech first in the class. I was excited but very nervous.  I just thought to myself that I would set and example for the rest of them. They would either be better or worse or the same. So that made me feel a lot better. I stepped up on the stage.

I started my speeches it didn't seem to bad. I just started and finished it with eas. I listened to everyone else's speeches. They were very good. I was wondering what the teachers score they gave to me. I went over to Kobi he was the kid that marked me I asked what he gave. 'He said he gave 35/40. So that was a very good score. Overall I think I did ok.

I new it was a procedure because it had the materials and steps on how to make it. It had bossy words like remove and use and stuff like that. It also had diagrams to show us what it should look like.

Hamanatua Stream Walk

This week we ventured up Hamanatua stream,It was one of our things in our pepeha. We wanted to know were it originated, so we walked up Scarlys way to get to the gate where we go up. We saw Hamanatua but it was tiny we had to jump over. I walked through the stream because I luckily had gumboots.

I saw other people go in with shoes, it looked so uncomfortable. One person tried to jump but he slipped and he got soaked. It was so funny but I felt bad. A lot of people fell in and were so wet. We started our journey. I was excited.

We pasted a bunch of cows and calves. We stopped and had lunch and we carried on for about 20 more mins. I stepped in a mud patch and my gumboot fell off, and my foot came out of my boot and my foot got so wet so I took of my sock and carried on. When we came back to the stream. we had to jump over again. I stepped into the stream but the water go t into my boot it was so wet so I just took it off, then another kid slipped and fell in this time it was a different kid it was probably worse. Overall it was quite fun.

Life Education Truck

This week we went to the life education truck. We went on Monday and Wednesday. My old teacher was the person inside the truck. His name is Matua Beau. We lined up up by the truck and he told us to get into 3 lines.

We hoped into the truck and sat down surprisingly it looked very cool inside. There we led lights that change colours when he wanted to. We he made it red it meant we had to stop look and listen. When it was blue or white it was just normal. He talked about change. Like if you had to move to a different school.

He showed us a video about a kid called Billy and how he went to a different school and his old school only had about 30 people in his school. Now he was at a school with about 200 kids. Nobody was being nice to Billy and then a kid came and asked if he wanted to play rugby with them. After that we met a puppet called Harold. He told us a joke. They were sooo funny.

Cross Country

This week Wednesday 15th September we had cross country. We had to walk to the course in Wainui. It wasn't that hard though. When we got to the course the year six girls lined up. When they started the year six boys lined up. Which was me so I got ready and then the starter person said take your marks get set go!

I sprinted off and I had a pretty good start. The people behind me were Jaxon and someone else I couldn't see. We went around the first corner, Jaxon was right behind me he past me I thought it was over but it wasn't because I was only about a metre behind. I felt I was going to trip up and lose it all. Surprisingly I kept a steady pace. We finished our first lap and I was exhausted. It was the second lap and I was still just behind Jaxon.

We came around the last bend I slipped but still kept my balance. We were coming to the finish and we were neck and neck. We came up to the finish line I sprinted so hard and so did Jaxon we both dived to the finish and I felt so dizzy. I didn't know what I came, but it was over I was drained.

Cookies

Since lockdown has started I have been doing a lot of baking, but my favourite baking was the chocolate chip cookies. It is a very simple dish but it tastes so goooood! I will tell you the how to make them.

Ingredients

200 g butter

1 cup white sugar

1 cup soft brown sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp vanilla essence

3 cups standard grade flour

Pinch of salt

1 tsp baking powder

2 cups chocolate chips

  1.   oven to 180°C bake and grease or line two large baking trays with baking paper.

  2. Melt Butter, then add White Sugar and Soft Brown Sugar and cream these together. Beat in the eggs and vanilla then use a spoon or spatula to mix in the dry ingredients.

  3. Roll into medium sized balls and place on prepared trays. They shouldn't spread too much so flatten slightly. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until lightly browned around the edges.

  4. Leave to cool on trays for a couple of minutes, before transferring to a wire cooling rack.

This recipe will make about 50 deelishis cookies.

Lockdown Learning😱👌2.0

This year covid is back so that means lockdown. I never saw it coming. My mum got an email from the teachers it said lockdown learning is back. I thought to myself NOOOOOOOO!!!Trapped with my family for ages! It couldn't get any worse.

The next day my mum got another email that we could pick up our chromebooks to work on. It also meant we would have google meets. I could finally see my mates. I logged into my chromebook and got onto a google meet and saw all of my classmates. The teachers talked about what we where going to do this week.

There were some new tasks it was interesting. My week felt pretty normal except it was at my house. Everyday me and my siblings and dad would go on a massive walk to the end of the beach. It was hard But there was a plus side to it all once we got to the end we saw a seal. he looked pretty cool. So over all I have had a pretty good time so far.

Rugby Game!

It  was a Friday morning and I had a rugby game at 12:00 Pm. We were going to face Awapuni and Cobham school. We weren't so sure if they were good or not. At about 11:30 am we had to leave to Awapuni school. We had the first game. We were going to face Cobham.

I did paper scissor rock with their captain, he had won. He said for us to kick off. My mate, Vinnie, kicked off and it landed, bounced back and forward. Finally one of Cobhams players caught it and they ran. A person from my team tackled them. The ball got lost backwards. My friend Momo grabbed it and ran off, he got to the end and got a try. We had to kick to them again one of their players caught it and sprinted down the field, he stepped me and I missed the tackle and then he got a try. At the end Wainui had won the game.

Next we had to face Awapuni. They kicked off to us, I caught it and ran. One of their players tackled me I fell back and tumbled to the ground. One of my teammates took the ball and also got tackled, we lost the ball they picked it up and got a try. We were losing, but we didn't give up. Cory picked the ball up after they kicked he ran a got a try. At the end they had won the match. I was so tired.

We went back to school and then had to do more running because we had cross country in a couple of weeks. At the end of they day it was quite fun.

Chess Tournament

On Tuesday we had a chess tournament. It was my first tournament in my life. I was very nervous. We had to wait for the games to be drawn out. I had faced a kid from my school. The organiser said to start our timer. I got to start first. If you won you got 1 point if you lost you got none, and if you tied you got half a point.

I did my first move and he did his. We had a 15 minute timer on. I did four moves and then I one won. I felt so relieved that I had won. I had one point. I went over to my friends game he was facing a kid from another school. I think they were tieing I wasn't to sure. The next game I won and then I won and then I lost and lost and then I lost and then won. All my games didn't take to long.

I had 4 points in total and a kid called Nathan got 6 points which was pretty good. I got 2 badges one was for a quick knockout which was for under 10 moves and I got another one for checkmate under 30 seconds. Overall It was kinda fun.

Orange Project

This week we did an orange project. We had to do measure how much it weighs and capacity and so on. As you can see it shows in the picture below.

We split into groups to do all of these things. My group had to do the liquid and how much one orange could contain I can't exactly remember how much there was but it was quite a bit. The other groups had to do the other stuff. In my group we had about 5 to 6 people in it. After we did the weighing and stuff we had to find out what what all of the words meant.

Penguin Project

This term we have been making a project about penguins. There were three choices to pick out of. There was a picture, a life size drawing and a diorama. For the picture book you could do it in a pair of three, for the life size drawing you had to do it in pairs of two and the diorama it is also pairs of two.

Me and my group picked the picture book. We made it based it on the gingerbread man but as penguins and we will show all of there dangers and things they have to face in a daily basis, like dogs, cats, rats and builders. We have to do the pictures which is quite hard to do. We haven't finished yet and I also think we are a long way from finishing. The teacher said we only have to do about six to ten pages. We have done six.

My group has about one week. I hope we can finish if not that would not be that great.

Beach Clean up

This week, we did a beach clean up. Our teacher said there was a prize for who ever got the most trash. She said the prize was from Japan. We had to do it in groups of three. I was with Max and Momo.

The teacher gave everyone a bucket. Once we had our groups together and buckets sorted we went to the beach. We found a plastic bag and a plastic tube sort of thing. We walked all the way to the Wainui Surf Club. Our bucket was pretty much full by the time we got there. One of my friends found a towel and somebody else found a balloon with stuff in it. We had a play there for a while then we had to go back to school.

We walked back on the pathway and we found two beer bottles. A lot of people found beer bottles. Also, on the way back, I found a nerf dart and some kind of sweater.

When we got back to school we had to count all of the rubbish that we found. We didn't get too much but that is a good thing.

Addition of Decimals

This week, our teacher was teaching us how to do decimals in algorithms. First, I found it hard but then - I got it! I have done a screencastify of me doing one of the equations. I think I got it right? We had to it in separate rooms around the school because it was a lot more quiet. First, you have to start at the hundredths and then you move up to the tenths and so on.

When we arrived we got told our walking groups I was with Hunter and Te atawhai and our teacher was matua Stephan. First we went up these stairs and just that was extremely tiring. We got to the a big statue and I thought we were done but guess what it was not even a quarter of the way we still had ages to go. Next we had to go up a mountain near cooks cove, witch was quite tiring. There were some downhill bits which were nice. After the hills and stuff we got to the look out it had a good view. This is the lookout picture

It was very tiring though. Next we went down lots of stairs which was a big relief but on the way back up thats just painful.Once we got down the stairs we got to have a brake and have some food. Then we wen't back up witch wasn't as hard as I thought when we got back to the start I sat down straight away then we headed back to school.
